Rob & Allie
Whispering Winds Farm in Chepachet, Rhode Island
June 10th, 2018
I'm fairly certain that, no matter how long I shoot weddings and engagement photo sessions, I'll never get tired of hearing a clearly anxious couple who are worried about their shoot tell me "You know, we're just not comfortable in front of the camera."
Anytime someone says that, I know we're going to have a great time working together and I'm going to make it my mission to break down any walls they have preventing them from relaxing for photos and nowhere was that more evident than in my June engagement shoot with Rob and Allie.
Rob and Allie are a super down-to-earth couple who epitomize everything I love about working with people.
From the groom's genuine excitement over photography gear I was using to the bride's sweet charm and adorable smile, this pair is as low key as it gets and I knew I was in for something special when Allie asked if we could do their engagement photo session at the farm where she boards her horse.
Of course I said yes. Who wouldn't? And I'm glad we did because it was a fun session that told me everything I needed to know about the couple ahead of their October wedding and much more.
Rob & Allie's session began with a bit of an awkward feeling out process as I tried to see what would make the soon-to-be bride and groom most comfortable.
After a couple of "standard poses," I figured out rather quickly that that's not really this couple and decided we'd be better served leaning into what makes them tick ... namely, photos where they were in each other's arms but allowed to be silly instead of overly romantic.
But where I could really see their personalities shine through the most, by far, was when Allie took us over to the barn area of the farm and we got to meet some of the animals who call the place home.
I loved this location for so many reasons but the main one, I think, is just how comfortable Rob and Allie seemed as we walked the grounds.
I could tell they've spent some time here in the past and after some nice shots in the front of the property, Rob and Allie changed clothes and we made our way to the back end of the farm where I knew a beautiful lake awaited us with one of the most stunning reflections I've ever seen.
And, of course, we just had to include Allie's horse in some of the shots as well. It just wouldn't have been a proper engagement shoot for this bride if we didn't and I knew immediately of all the photos we took on this day, those would be the ones she cherished most.
By the time our session came to an end, I left Whispering Winds Farm feeling like I had learned a ton about Rob and Allie. Namely, more than ever before, I knew they're an amazingly sweet and adorable couple.
Working with Rob and Allie was an absolute treat and I can't wait to see how the vision for their wedding day in Narragansett takes shape.
If nothing else, I know it's going to be a day full of love and laughter and neither this bride nor groom are likely to take themselves too seriously.
And, judging by their engagement session, I wouldn't have it any other way.
