Meaghan & Daniel
Webb Memorial State Park, Weymouth, Massachusetts
September 16th, 2024
Have you ever seen how excited a little kid gets when they meet Santa for the first time? I'm pretty much the exact same way the minute I see any fall foliage while on a shoot in the middle of September.
Call me crazy but no matter how long I shoot weddings and engagement sessions, that first hint of fall will always brighten up my smile and excite me like few things can and that's one of the reasons I was so thrilled to be working with Meaghan and Daniel for their mid-September engagement session at Webb Memorial State Park in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
The other reason was the couple themselves as Meaghan and Danny were one of the most fun and unserious pairs I've photographed this year, making their beautiful fall photo shoot an absolute delight to do ... and that was before we were treated with a stunning sunset to cap the day off.
If their wedding is even half as fun as their engagement session, I have to ask: Is it 2025 yet?
I knew from the very start of Meaghan and Danny's engagement session that we were in for a fun afternoon when we chose a throwaway location to do some test photos of the pair ... and I was already loving everything we were seeing.
Finding that initial chemistry with a couple is pretty challenging sometimes but Meaghan and Danny made it a breeze and I knew once we headed into the actual park, I'd love everything we captured and boy did I ever.
I had never been to Webb Memorial State Park prior to Meaghan and Danny's shoot and, man, what a location.
You know you've found a gem of a spot for photos when you're just walking to a location, see a beautiful tree, stop for a couple of photos and suddenly a whole half hour passes and that's exactly what happened here when Meaghan, Danny and I spotted a beautiful area with a nice bench and a tree that was in full fall bloom.
The only thing more colorful than the leaves on this tree were the future newlyweds who never missed a moment to be silly.
As I recommend all my couples do, Meaghan and Danny brought three outfits with them to our shoot together and I honestly have a hard time deciding which one I liked the best.
I think if forced to choose, I'd pick the second outfit the pair brought out but mostly because it felt the most "fall like." It helps, of course, that we were really hitting our stride during this part of the shoot as well.
There are few things I love more on a fall engagement shoot than passing through an area with a nice, worn path and tall trees overhead and that's why, midway through my shoot with Meaghan and Danny, I had to pause the pair for photos on a cut-threw path to the beach.
And who can blame me? Talk about a beautiful location.
Of all the spots Meaghan, Danny and I got to during their session, I'd be hard pressed to say any were as nice as the overlook with the Boston skyline in the background, though. And, surprisingly, it's not because of the skyline.
While doing some test shots in an area Meaghan wanted to take photos near, I noticed the sun was really starting to set beautifully and, well, let's just say I was beyond excited once i saw what we were capturing for these two.
As much fun as the fall colors and unexpectedly beautiful sunset was, however, there was no way I could finish Meaghan and Danny's engagement session without a trip along the beach and I know they felt the same way.
Knowing I had everything i wanted — and then some — from this shoot, this part of Meaghan and Danny's engagement session was just the cherry on top but, boy, what a way to end a really fun afternoon.
As Meaghan, Danny and I walked back to our cars, talk turned to their 2025 wedding and while I love all my 2025 clients, I think my expectations might now be highest for their big day. There's just something so fun and so reassuring when you get to work with clients before they head down the aisle and get to know them a little bit and by the time we called it a day on this lovely engagement session, Meaghan and Danny felt like friends I've known for years.
So thanks for a great September afternoon Meaghan and Danny. I can't wait to do it all over again next year. See you in 2025!
