Brittany & Alisa
Roger Williams Park in Providence, Rhode Island
October 21st, 2018
One of the best and worst parts about being a wedding photographer nowadays is everyone plans their big day so far in advance. On the one hand, this allows you as a photographer to know your schedule super far in advance. On the other, it can be a bit frustrating because you meet an amazing couple and don't get to work with them for one, sometimes two full years.
And that's exactly what happened to me when I met Brittany and Alisa at a bridal expo in September of 2017. I knew from the moment I spoke to them that I didn't just WANT to shoot their wedding ... I NEEDED to. That's how cool a couple they were right from our first conversation.
You can imagine how tough it was for me to have to wait 13 entire months to have them in front of my camera but, boy, when we finally got together for their fall engagement shoot at Roger Williams Park in October, it was well worth the wait.
Brittany and Alisa are an absolute delight to be around and I adore just how very different their individual personalities are. While Brittany is super positive and peppy, Alisa has a dry sense of humor that hits me right in my wheelhouse. Together, the two are a perfect match and watching them is a ton of fun.
The two brides chose Roger Williams Park for their engagement session and I'm glad they did. Not only did I have an engagement session in the park right before their shoot – which meant I knew exactly which areas of the park looked great with the fall foliage and which didn't – but I'm so familiar with the park that I never had to worry about where we would shoot next. I could just focus on bringing out the best of these brides' personalities.
And that was an absolute breeze ... or at least it was once I got Alisa comfortable with being in front of the lens.
Brittany and Alisa chose to bring their cute little dog along for some of the photos and I loved the extra little touch of something personal to them.
What I also loved about this shoot is every time we went to a new location, I liked it better than the one before.
Working with these two was not only easy and efficient (they know exactly how to pose and know what they like and don't like from photos!) but it seemed like the time flew by because of how much fun we were having talking about their September 2019 wedding.
While there really wasn't one spot we chose that I liked more than every other, if I had to pick a favorite location for Brittany and Alisa's shoot, it would probably have been the Temple of Music as it led to my absolute favorite shot of the afternoon, a casual photo of the two of them on the steps (pictured above) that I think perfectly summed up their relationship together.
In fact, it might be my favorite engagement photo of the year. I just love the shot.
By the time we reached our final location in the park, I knew two things about Brittany and Alisa: First, they were incredibly awesome to work with. Second, and perhaps more important, as tough as it was to wait a year to shoot their engagement session, the wait until their wedding next September is going to be torturous.
Brittany and Alisa are two super sweet people to be around and their relationship is beautiful to watch. I have no doubt that when they walk down that aisle in a couple of months, it will be one of the most fun and memorable wedding days I get to take part in.
So thanks Brittany and Alisa and I can't wait to see you in 2019. :)
