Roger Williams Park Engagement Photos

October 17th, 2023
If you run into just about any wedding photographer in New England in the middle of October, chances are you are seeing them at their most burned out. It's a hectic time of year and, sometimes, just stringing together a sentence or two of coherent thought is tough, let along getting through an entire photo session.
But, that's just the nature of busy season and that's why, whenever I hit a particularly tough stretch of days during this time of year, I hope and pray my clients will be so awesome and friendly that they'll carry me through whatever creative burnouts I might be going through.
Case in point: Kaitlin and Adam.
Kaitlin and Adam asked me to photograph their engagement session at Roger Williams Park on the last of a brutal four-day stretch that saw me shoot two long weddings and another engagement session the day before theirs. To say I was tired is an understatement but I never felt it because this soon-to-be bride and groom came to their shoot with a ton of fun energy and felt like fast friends from the very first photo until the time we were walking back to our cars and the session was over.
And if their wedding is even half as fun as this session was, we're in for something truly special in 2024.
My time with Kaitlin and Adam began in the Roger Williams Park Rose Garden which is an area I've made an effort to try to get to more in recent years, even if the roses it is named after are no longer in bloom.
I love this park of the park because it's a super casual and relaxed spot to get to know a bride and groom without worrying about how the photos come out when you're first getting started on a session. Lucky for me, Kaitlin and Adam proved amazing to work with right from the start and, somehow, these “warm up” photos were some of my favorite of the entire day.
The nice thing about the Rose Garden at Roger Williams Park is it's located right next to a bunch of the spots I like on that side of the park. In the case of Kaitlin and Adam, this meant a casual stroll over to the Lovers Bridge next.
This was one of the most fun parts of Kaitlin and Adam's shoot as it gave us a chance to get to know one another and to dish on the hot topic of the day: Taylor Swift's new romance with Travis Kelce.
As much as I love TayTay, though, I don't know and she and #87 can match how cute Kaitlin and Adam were on this day, especially as we took full advantage of the nearly Kansas City Chief colored red and yellow outfits Kaitlin and Adam wore which meshed perfectly with the bridge.
Midway through Kaitlin and Adam's engagement session, the pair wanted to swap to a second outfit and I'm so glad they did because the cloud cover at Roger Williams Park overtook the Japanese Gardens and set a nice, crisp fall tone that looked amazing with Kaitlin and Adam's green and white attire.
I could have spent hours with Kaitlin and Adam in the Japanese Gardens but, alas, the sun was starting to set and I knew we still had a bunch of locations to try to hit before we ran out of daylight.
Luckily, this bride and groom were down for a bit of a speed run to close out the session and we hit not only the Iron Footbridge but the Temple to Music as well and I can't think of a better way to have cap the afternoon.
All in all, I couldn't have asked for more from Kaitlin and Adam's engagement session. It was the perfect session for me to close my busiest week of the fall season out on and it was a fantastic way to get one last engagement session in before the foliage disappeared for the year.
If nothing else, it let me get to know the bride and groom who will be walking down the aisle next September and I know now that that's gonna be one wedding that I can't wait for once the 2024 season officially begins.
So thank you Kaitlin and Adam for an awesome time on a beautiful fall 2023 afternoon and I can't wait to do it all over again next year. Same time, different place but same energy. See you next year!
