Roger Williams Park Engagement Photos
John & Jesslyn
Roger Williams Park, Providence, Rhode Island
June 25th, 2022
I never push couples to book an engagement session with me but, when they do, I'm always a little excited because these sessions are a great opportunity to get to know the people whose wedding you be photographing before their big day comes.
On these sessions, we get to talk a little bit about everything and that's why I adored John and Jesslyn's June engagement session at Roger Williams Park so much. Because in the two hours or so we worked together, there was a mutual feeling out process to see how best to get this bride and groom comfortable in front of the camera and, if these photos are any indication, John and Jesslyn's September wedding is definitely going to be one of my favorites this fall.
Hopefully, it won't be nearly as warm though.
John and Jesslyn chose to have their engagement photos taken at Roger Williams Park on a beautiful but humid summer afternoon and, I have to be honest, when I got their text saying they were running a little bit late, I was relieved as I wanted the temperature to cool down a bit before we got started.
While it took us a few minutes to get acclimated to both each other and the hot summer heat, once John and Jesslyn posing together, they were naturals and I could see how much more comfortable they were in each other's arms than apart.
I especially loved the photos we took in the Japanese Gardens at Roger Williams Park because the light was simply stunning and this bride and groom looked great on some of the park's most picturesque and iconic backdrops.
I especially loved the little ways these two interacted on the bench area in the garden. This has long been one of my favorite places to photograph a couple and with good reason. Talk about beautiful.
And the sunlight peeking through behind them was just the cherry on top.
If I had to choose a favorite portion of John and Jesslyn's engagement shoot, it would likely be when the three of us made our way over to the Temple to Music.
Jesslyn was a bit nervous at the start of our engagement session but as we headed to the Temple to Music, it was clear she was much more comfortable giving me feedback over which poses she liked and didn't like and that is GOLD to a photographer.
I really loved how into their photos John and Jesslyn got at this point and most of the rest of the session was just me sitting back seeing what kind of poses they had fun in. It's hard not to enjoy a session like that, especially with a bride and groom so easy to work with as these two.
I could have spent the rest of the night capturing lovely photos of John and Jesslyn but, alas, the sun had to go down eventually. Thankfully, in a few short months the three of us will get together and do it all over again, this time on a much bigger scale and with so much more to capture.
So, thank you John and Jesslyn for a fantastic and super fun engagement session. I can't wait for the fall and can't wait to see you become husband and wife. If that day is anywhere near as enjoyable as your engagement session was, I know it's going to be one of my favorite weddings of 2022 for sure. See you soon!
