Stacey & John
Engagement session at Roger Williams Park in Providence, Rhode Island.
May 7th, 2017*
Few things give me greater joy than when I'm corresponding with a bride about her engagement shoot and am asked if I have any ideas when it comes to the location. As a photographer who has traveled up and down Rhode Island more times than I can possibly count, I know the state is full of magical places that any couple would be lucky to have their portraits done but, to me, few are as nice and varied as Roger Williams Park in Providence.
In the past three years, I've been fortunate to shoot at the park A LOT and, because of this, it's become one of my favorite places to take couples as you can really can get a variety of looks and gorgeous backdrops without having to go very far.
For Stacey and John, who will be getting married in September, a beautiful May afternoon and the rich and vibrant Roger Williams Park paved the way for an incredible engagement session that was so much fun I couldn't wait to get home and edit it the moment we finished shooting.
Stacey and John are a wonderful couple who came prepared with a lot of cool ideas and props and we put together one of the most romantic sessions I've had the pleasure of shooting.
If this is a sign of things to come for their wedding, consider this the start of my countdown to September!
Stacey and John brought along Stacey's son for the shoot and he was a trooper. I especially loved the cool sunglasses he had on that I immediately knew I wanted to use for a photo when I saw how cool the reflection was.
I loved the way Stacey and John followed direction. Posing on one of the bridge's in the Japanese Garden, I told them to fall into each other's arms and they were naturals. I can't tell which photo I like more above: the nice and natural shot on the left or the cartoony edit I chose on the closeup next to it. It really went well with her tattoos and his love of comic books, as shown below.
By the end of the shoot, the weather had turned cold and Stacey and John were freezing as we went to the Iron Footbridge in the park but, regardless, it was a picture-perfect afternoon/night for a shoot like this and with a cool park and an amazing couple, I think it sets an amazing tone for what promises to be one of my favorite weddings of 2017.
And if nothing else, it will definitely be one of my favorite engagement shoots for a very long time after that.
See you in September Stacey and John!
