Colt State Park Engagement Photos
Ashli & Cole
Colt State Park, Bristol, Rhode Island

The last thing you want to do as a wedding photographer is set higher expectations than you can meet so you can imagine my worry heading into Ashli and Cole's October engagement session at Colt State Park when the pair had already seen me and liked my work from not one but TWO weddings of their family members.
Luckily, the balance to that was that neither Ashli nor Cole came into their photo session feeling super comfortable in front of the camera so, in many ways, our time together was to find the happy medium in terms of expectations before and after the photos were taken.
I knew within minutes we were in for a great day just by seeing how much Ashli and Cole made each other laugh and it didn't hurt that we had some of the most beautiful weather I've ever experienced at Colt State Park.
And it just kept getting better from there.
Ashli and Cole didn't have a ton of requests for their fall engagement session but the one I knew would be easiest to pull off was capturing their personality in their matching flannel shirts and, so, we knocked that out right from the start.
I loved working with these two but especially the groom as Cole came into our session a bit unsure of what to expect and making him feel comfortable enough to not only smile but smile believably is something I was psyched to see.
One of the most rewarding parts of Ashli and Cole's engagement session was being able to explore Colt State Park with very few other couples around.
The three of us travelled with Ashli's mom, who was our helper for the day, and really got to head to areas I haven't been before, which says something given how many times I've been in this park.
What I especially loved was seeing the way the light just seemed perfect everywhere we stepped, in particular in the very entrance of the park as Ashli and Cole changed outfits into something a bit lighter and that portion of Colt State Park fit their theme perfectly.
The one downside to Ashli and Cole's engagement session was I knew the longer we shot for, the faster the light would disappear. It's just a product of late October in New England and you always have to be mindful of that, especially at Colt State Park.
Luckily, we saved the easiest and typically brightest part of the park for last and, man, what a decision that was as Ashli's third outfit was perfect for the bridge area and dock area of the park. Talk about a great way to cap an awesome session.
As Ashli, Cole and I said our goodbyes from Colt State Park, I couldn't help but appreciate how perfectly everything went for their engagement session. Colt State Park can truly be a hit or miss place, especially in the late fall once the foliage disappears but I felt we did a great job really capturing the spirit of their relationship ... and the park itself ... in the time we spent together.
Ashli and Cole are set to be one of my first weddings of 2023 and, I'll be honest, I'm very much looking forward to time off after this insane wedding season. But, with that being said, I take some comfort knowing that when it's time for me to get back out there, these two will be one of the first assignments I have in the spring.
So thank you Ashli and Cole for a great engagement session and I look forward to seeing you in 2023!
